Here is the latest edition of Behind the Music
Providing insight into what makes musicians tick, in their own words.
In this second edition we get some insight from Lou Duffy-Howard of Loudhailer Electric Company.
Where do you find continued inspiration?
We (Loudhailer Electric Company) look around and find that we love music, being in a band, making great sounds, jumping around on stage and having fun.
Playing live, writing songs and recording, we love it all.
And that’s good inspiration to keep going.
What do you hope to achieve?
To keep it fun, and to keep on doing it.
What are your struggles?
We’ve been signed up to record labels before and I found it took the life and soul out of it.
So we are as independent from anyone else’s business as we can be.
But of course that means we do everything ourselves.
So all the work running a record company, negotiating gigs, doing all the PR etc. is a necessary chore.
Have you achieved what you want?
As a band (Rich and Lou Duffy-Howard, Jeff Parsons, Rich Walker and Chris Heron) we’re all at different stages in our lives and careers.
Personally I’m quite pleased that I’ve got one or two fantastic basses that I regularly play live and in the studio with people who are great friends and musicians.
How did you achieve your success?
Accepted the challenge, pretty much every time. Took the chance, had a go.
I work with people I like, treat people well, and keep at it…
Is there anything else you would like to share?
