Here is the latest edition of Behind the Music
Providing insight into what makes musicians tick, in their own words.
In this second edition we get some insight from Ruth Toynton.
Where do you find continued inspiration?
Hearing new and older artists.
Seeking out new musicians to work with.
Keeping my skills up to date by working in a variety of projects, I love to try new things.
What do you hope to achieve?
I hope to have my own band performing mostly original material and to work and write with different artists.
What are your struggles?
I came to music late in life so sometimes juggling family life and the singer/songwriter aspects of my personality can be difficult.
Have you achieved what you want?
Not yet, I’m close to achieving some of what I want, I have some amazing things coming up. I like to keep busy so I’d always set my sights on another project to keep moving forward.
How did you achieve your success?
One success I have had is passing my degree aged 33 and writing and recording my own material.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
As a kid I was shy and extremely quite but I have always written and observed other people.
As a young adult I worked in a nursing home as a carer.
I didn’t even think about a singing or a career in music till I was in my late 20’s because I was able to make such a big change I wonder what is coming next.
