Providing insight into what makes musicians tick, in their own words.

Where do you find continued inspiration?

I find most of my inspiration comes from experiences, places or people that are close to my heart.

A lot of my guitar inspiration obviously comes from spending so much time with legendary acoustic guitarist Gordon Giltrap.

He is definitely responsible for the amount of different tunings that I play in and I’m no stranger to having a guitar thrown at me in some weird and wonderful tuning and challenged to write something in that tuning.

It can be challenging but I’m always up for a challenge.

What do you hope to achieve?

My initial dream right from childhood was to be a songwriter and to a certain extent I still feel this way.

Performing the songs is an added bonus but recently somebody asked me to teach them to play one of my songs so they could perform it, I think that’s the most thrilling thing ever.

On top of hearing the audience sing your lyrics, that’s another good feeling so I suppose the answer to the question is,

I want to get my music heard.

What are your struggles?

I’m a very lyrical person and so to understand my music you need to listen to the words as my lyrics can be cryptic sometimes but there is usually a message in there. Especially in such songs as “Maria In The Moon” based on a novel by Hull author Louise Beech which covers the delicate subject of child abuse.

So I guess my main struggles are finding a venue with an attentive audience that will tune into what I’m all about.

Have you achieved what you want?

Oh my word no, definitely not, does anyone ever?

It’s in my nature to always want to achieve and do more.

Last year I played in Canada, met some incredible people and already I have the taste for travel.

I love sharing my music across the globe and I’m hoping to return with a much bigger tour for 2019 with Canadian promoter Mike Anderson.

Getting a track of mine onto a tv advert or drama is my big dream and it never hurts to dream does it?

Everyone should have a dream 🙂

How did you achieve your success?

A lot of my success is down to Gordon Giltrap although he will always say differently but its all about being placed in the right circles and at the right time.

It was through Gordon that I became an endorsee for JHS/Vintage guitars and through that I was able to get to know another legend Elliott Randall from Steeley Dan, I invited him to play on a track of mine called “Purple Heart” and was delighted when he accepted.

Being part of the Vintage family not only means I get to play their fab range of guitars but that I’m also lucky enough to get to know the other Vintage Artists such as Elliott.

When I was performing for Vintage at a guitar show I met a lovely lady called Fiona and meeting her led to an introduction to Eva Cassidy’s brother, he then played fiddle on a couple of my album tracks.

Again, through Gordon, I got to know Oliver Wakeman, son of Rick, Oliver who not only plays on my album “Seductive Sky” on a track called “Time” but played on my last album too.

I’ve been lucky enough to tour with Gordon last year and his sort of audience are a perfect backdrop for my Music. It was a huge privilege to have him play and also perform live on my track “Holly Blue” and also to be a part of his UK tour 2018.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

I’d like to take a moment to thank the fabulous team that I have around me now,

  • Manager David Micheal Ward,
  • Photographer Laup Wilson and
  • the guy who did my music video, Dave Carley of Kandle Voodoo.

Support is everything when you’re a musician/artist and so

a massive thank you to those that have supported my journey so far and to you of course at 1create for inviting me to share this with you.

My new album “Seductive Sky” is available online from www.carriemartin.co.uk and also iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and many other online platforms and if your readers would like to visit my Facebook music page and give me a like or perhaps give our music video “Maria In The Moon” a watch that would make my day.

thank you

much love xx
