Here is the latest edition of Behind the Music
Providing insight into what makes musicians tick, in their own words.
In this eighth edition we interview lead vocalist Jennifer Benson of the American band, Ignescent (Joey Sepulveda – rhythm guitar, Dev Miguel Elion – lead guitar, Cristian Aguilar – bass guitar and Chris Calix – drums).
Where do you find continued inspiration?
I find continued inspiration from God, my family, and from other people’s stories.
I’ve been through many trials and struggles in life.
I went through a year and a half of chronic pain but was thankfully healed from that.
I went through a custody battle in which lies were being told about me and I thought I was going to lose my daughter. Even the GAL (the child attorney) recommended that my daughter live with her dad and my own lawyer didn’t believe me.
In the end I had to fight for my daughter without a lawyer. God did many miracles and I won the custody battle.
Through all the pain and struggles I want to encourage others that God sees them and what they are going through and that he loves them so much.
My band, Ignescent, has a new song coming out that is co-written with Sameer Bhattacharya of Flyleaf and it talks about my story and the custody battle.
Fearless – Ignescent
What do you hope to achieve?
I’d love to encourage others with a message of hope that God loves them, I hope to finish my solo album and continue making music with my band Ignescent.
I hope to someday act in a TV show and my dream is to one day open for Skillet.
What are your struggles?
My struggles are trying to balance everything I am doing with family but I just try to take things one day at a time.
Have you achieved what you want?
I have achieved some of the things I want but not everything yet.
My band, Ignescent has played at the world famous – Rock Fest with bands like Megadeth and Korn.
Opened for Flyleaf, Eve 6, Stryper, Saliva, Lacey Sturm, and we are playing on Vans Warped Tour and at Summerfest this summer.
I just found out I will be acting in Cindy Mich’s movie “Love’s Two Way Mirror” and my song from my solo project will be in a TV pilot of Los Angeles producer, Hussain Ahmed’s, show called Oceana.
How did you achieve your success?
I worked very hard and have networked and contacted people myself. God has opened the doors to many opportunities in which I am very thankful.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
I will be sharing some of my story in a new video that you can watch here on YouTube – Jennifer Benson’s Story (Lead Singer of Ignescent) having been released in June 2018.
