Darth Vader has a Lightside

You have probably walked past the Sense charity shop on Newland Avenue, in Hull and seen this excellent mural in the window.

However, what you probably didn’t know was this mural was created by NADOCS, Joe Cosway and Zoe Carver of SHTF Industries to promote an amazing and priceless prize!

Neil Ellis, a film industry prop maker and huge Star Wars fan, spent 8 months collecting autographs from the cast and crew of Star Wars including Harrison Ford, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega and the late Carrie Fisher.

Neil gifted this exclusive autograph book enclosed in a bronze case to the charity on the agreement that it would be raffled off so one very lucky Star Wars fan could enjoy this once in a lifetime item.

Once we learned about this great prize, had to do something to make sure everyone knew about it and to raise as much money as possible for the charity.

From a friendly chat between Daniel Ward, Paul Frederick and Kateule Bwalya (of and WebSideView) followed by a conversation with Lee Stelloo (Director of Sentinel Squad UK) a great surprise promotion was born.

Remarks by Sense’s very own Assistant Manager Daniel Ward

I did not expect anything like it, I have heard of the Sentinel Squad but always thought they were huge, commercial and would never come down to our little old shop. How wrong was I!

Seeing Darth Vader and the Storm Troopers re-enacting the Beatles Abbey Road crossing was amazing.

I never thought this would happen but thanks to a chat with Kateule that lead to the involvement of and the Sentinel Squad excelled any of my expectations.

We were only doing a little thing but after today (Saturday 25th March 2017) I hope we have set the bar for other shops and that Neil Ellis is made aware so he can see the huge effort made for his cause.

It’s been a huge success, was well worth the effort and the Darkside has indeed risen to the cause.

We can’t thank Kateule Bwalya (WebSideView), Paul Frederick (, Lee Stelloo and all of the Sentinel Squad enough.

We are especially grateful that the Sentinel Squad came to the event as they were already booked for another event and made a detour to make sure this happened.

“No other company that I am aware of has come to us (Sense, Newland) to do anything like this”

said Daniel Ward, Assistant Manager at Sense, “There was a lot that went on behind the scenes to make this happen. Just getting Darth Vader dressed took huge effort and more than 2 people to help.”

There was a great turn out and it caused a bit of a stir on Newland Avenue. We even discover Darth Vader has another son as a passing driver recognised Lord Vader, shouting “You are my father.”

A true Star Wars fan at age 8 even asked his dad “what does Danny Ward want so I can win this prize” an innocent comment that just goes to show just how great a prize this is that transcends generations.

“ have delivered exceedingly well”

Daniel Ward

We all had a great time doing this for a great cause and will surely be doing more in the future.

Seeing Lord Vader and the Storm Troopers stomping through the shop was surreal and something we won’t forget”

A surprise visit from Lord Vader and the storm troopers also made two unsuspecting special guests day as you will see in the video below:
